IF A KID COULD DO IT

IZ CORP ADVERTISING SELLS ADS
Sample Ad Sales Script

REMEMBER THAT EACH STUDENT MUST SELL ONE ADVERTISEMENT FIRST QUARTER AND A SECOND AD SECOND QUARTER. THIS IS PART OF YOUR GRADE.

Don’t forget to smile  :-)

Hi, my name is _________________________________. I’m a student from Hillsboro High School and I was wondering if I could talk to someone about your business possibly purchasing an ad in our yearbook. (If someone else comes to talk to you about it, REINTRODUCE YOURSELF and find out and write down the name of the person you are talking to. Give a professional handshake as well.)

Do you have a moment for me to tell you a little bit about our yearbook?

Our yearbook is a fall delivery book. That means that we receive our yearbooks when school starts in August. The name of our book is the Predator.

Selling advertising in our books helps us to keep the price low and have a better yearbook. The advertising also helps students know what businesses and types of services are available in our community. In a sense, advertising placed in a yearbook lasts forever, because unlike sports programs or newspapers, people keep their yearbooks forever and look back through them again and again through the years.

We have several ad sizes in black and white. Our most popular size is the 1/8 page for $40. (Show them the samples.) A 1/4 page ad is $60. (If the potential customer asks about a half or full page ad, politely let them know that we don’t sell those.)

Businesses can also purchase ads in color for a slightly higher fee. Our 1/8 page ad is $50, and a 1/4 page ad is $75.

We have a banner program that includes a 1/8 page ad. A banner with a color 1/8 ad is $130 and a banner with a black and white 1/8 ad is $120. We use Vista Print to purchase a banner with the name of your business, and we display this in common areas at the high school so that the parents and students know that you support our yearbook.

We also have something called the Adopt-a-Student Program. Many students in our school would like to have a yearbook but can’t afford one. With the Adopt-a-Student Program, businesses can actually purchase a yearbook for an underprivileged student.

The businesses who participate will be recognized in the yearbook in a special ad thanking them for their help. Would you be interested in helping a needy student?

If rejected, ask if the person would consider a purchase later in the school year or possibly next school year. Write down their response on your ad sales sheet.

No matter how the person responds to either the ad or the Adopt-a-Student Program, always leave on a positive note; thank the person sincerely, shake hands, and wish him or her a nice day.
